MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) – According to the website Thrillist, Mount Pleasant is the eighth fastest growing city in the United States. But not just anyone can afford to live there. There are, however, good folks working to change that.
Charleston’s median home price is $238-thousand, according to Zillow. The median home value in Mount Pleasant is just under $450-thousand.
Melissa Moore, director of operations for Housing for All Mount Pleasant, and Steve Dudash, founder of Donate2It, joined us in-studio to talk about the steps they are taking for attainable housing in Mount Pleasant. We touched on this topic before the holidays, but want to go deeper.
Housing for All, Mount Pleasant is an organization helping to make housing a reality in the area for teachers, firefighters, police officers, seniors and young professionals working to raise money in order to create, encourage and support the development of attainable housing that is accessible for those who work, live or hope to live in the town. The group’s focus is on individuals and families making less than 120-percent of the area’s median income.
Donate2It’s crowdfunding campaign has a goal of $20-thousand. So far, $3,890 has been donated and there are twenty days left.
